Domestic ViolenceSixth Judicial Circuit of Florida |
Domestic violence refers to any kind of family related aggressive, abusive, or violent behavior. It may come in the form of a serious threat, pushing or shoving, slapping, destruction of pets and personal property, or sexual abuse. No matter what form it takes, domestic violence usually gets worse without some kind of intervention. It usually becomes more frequent and more serious unless those involved change their behavior. Often domestic violence may result in serious physical and emotional injury.
WHO IS INVOLVED IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?
The persons involved in domestic violence are "family" to each other. They have, or at one time had, a relationship of care and love. The couples may be married, divorced, dating, or lovers who are living together. Most often a man may strike his wife or girlfriend, but sometimes a woman may strike her husband or boyfriend.
